Women’s DMR, Holloway Impress at Razorback Invitational
Friday, January 25, 2019 | Track and Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Florida logged four times and marks that rank in the top five nationally, including an NCAA lead by the women's distance medley relay, and a national No. 2 long jump from junior Grant Holloway.
The women's DMR opened the evening's running events, with the quartet of freshman Imogen Barrett, sophomore Nikki Stephens, freshman Gabrielle Wilkinson, and redshirt junior Jessica Pascoe beating Oregon in a two-team race. The time of 11:15.59 is the program's fastest since January 2015. Wilkinson's 2:06 split on the 800 leg, and Pascoe's 4:42 mile on the anchor highlighted the Gators' comeback win.
Holloway, who already leads the nation in the 60-meter hurdles and ranks second in the 200 meters, popped a jump of 8.02 meters (26 feet, 3.75 inches) on his fifth attempt of the night. The mark won the competition—which featured the NCAA leader—by 17 centimeters, and left him four centimeters off the national lead.
Sophomore Amanda Froeynes posted the No. 4-ranked pentathlon score in the country, in addition to capping the five-event competition with a meet record of 2:12.04 in the 800 meters. Froeynes finished ninth at NCAA Indoor Championships and third at SEC Indoor Championships last season.
The night's other national top five came from the men's distance medley relay, though, it is unlikely to hold come week's end.
Competition at the Razorback Invitational ramps up Saturday afternoon, with a live television broadcast starting at 2 p.m. on SEC Network.
