Vale Tallies Third Consecutive Finals Appearance at ITA Southeast Regionals

Duarte Vale remains undefeated in singles this fall to move into Monday's finals.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Duarte Vale continued his fall heroics at the ITA Southeast Regionals on Sunday, adding two more wins, including an impressive semifinals victory over UCF's No. 29 ranked Gabriel Decamps, to stay unbeaten and reach Monday's main draw finals. The Gators additionally saw a pair of consolation singles wins from juniors Andy Andrade and Brian Berdusco, though, both would fall in tough three-set super tiebreakers in semifinals action to conclude their weekend.

The matchup between No. 52 Vale and Decamps didn't disappoint for those in attendance, as the two competed hard with a plethora of impressive points from both players all match long. The first set was played tightly by both sides, knotted up at 4-4, up until Vale would capitalize on several Decamps miscues over the next two games to take the first set, 6-4. Decamps showed fight in the second set, though, Vale would hold off any signs of a comeback, upsetting the top seed, 6-4, 6-4, in straight sets to move into Monday's finals.

Vale notches his third consecutive finals appearance in three tournaments, while adding his 12th consecutive singles win to remain undefeated this fall. He'll go on to face UCF's No. 82 Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi, the main draw's No. 10 seed, in Monday's finals.

Prior to Sunday's semifinals, the quarterfinals would see a pair of Gators match up with each other, as Vale and No. 70 Lukas Greif met up in one of eight matches to begin singles competition.

Vale would take the first set, 6-4, as he would build a 5-2 lead in the second before Greif stormed back to cut the deficit to 5-4. Fighting off the late surge, Vale finished strong in closing out a 6-4, 6-4 decision to advance into the main draw semifinals.

Meanwhile, Brian Berdusco added a singles win in a dominant effort over Georgia Tech's Andres Martin, 6-2, 6-1, to move his way into the consolation semifinals.

Berdusco would go on to see Georgia Tech's Pablo Schelcher in the consolation semis, dropping the first set, 3-6, before completing a second set comeback to force a super tiebreaker. Tied at 5-5 in the second, Berdusco would capitalize on winning the break over Schelcher in taking the second set, 7-5. Berdusco fought hard, however, Schelcher managed to hold off a late comeback and prevail in the super tiebreaker, 10-7, to feature in Monday's consolation finals.

No. 31 Andrade met FSU's Juan Jalif in the consolation quarterfinals, jumping out 6-3 in the first set, though, Jalif would return the favor (6-3) to force a third-set tiebreaker. Andrade then went on to muscle Jalif in the third, earning the win, 10-3, to also move into the consolation semis.

Andrade faced Georgia's Erik Grevelius in the consolation semis, as the two would split sets (4-6, 6-4) to bring about another third-set super tiebreak for Andrade. Unfortunately, Grevelius would go on to prevail in the third with a 10-3 decision to conclude Andrade's run in the singles consolation draw.

No. 64 Ingildsen found himself in yet another three-set battle, this time with Georgia State's Vazha Shubladze in the main draw quarterfinals. After taking the first set, 6-3, Shubladze would jump out to a 5-2 lead over Ingildsen in the second. Ingildsen, however, grinded game after game to knot the match at 5-5 before forcing a tiebreak upon the match being moved indoors. The two traded blows in the tiebreak, though, Shubladze would narrowly manage to slip away with a 7-6 (6) decision in the third to cut Ingildsen's main draw run short in the quarterfinals.
