Women’s tennis set to take on UNF in road test.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 24 University of Florida women's tennis team returns to action Saturday, Feb. 16 when it travels to Jacksonville to battle North Florida at the UNF Tennis Complex in its first road challenge of the dual match campaign.
The Gators and Ospreys will square off at 10 a.m. ET.
The Gators last competed on Jan. 28 when they fell 4-3 to NC State in the ITA Kickoff Championship at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. After falling behind early against the Wolfpack, UF fought back to even the score at 3-3, but dropped the final matchup between the team's respective No. 1 players.
Florida, off to a 1-2 start to open the season, fell in narrow 4-3 defeats to California and NC State.
No. 17 Ida Jarlskog, No. 39 McCartney Kessler and freshman Anastasia Kharitonova have all recorded two wins in UF's first three matches. The Gators have posted a 9-8 mark as a collective in singles, but in doubles action they have played to just a 3-4 record.
After winning their first two dual matches, the Ospreys have dropped two of the last three and enter the weekend at 2-3. UNF battled No. 22 Florida State last time out on Feb. 9 and fell in a 4-0 defeat.
Saturday will be the first meeting between Florida and North Florida.
Following Saturday's competition, the Gators return to the court Tuesday, Feb. 19 when they host in-state foe No. 20 Florida State. Match time from Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex is slated for 5 p.m as the Gators and Seminoles meet for the 60th time. Tuesday's contest marks the beginning of a stretch in which UF plays four of its next five matches at home.
