Women’s tennis set to take on Seminoles in Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown.
GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The No. 24 University of Florida women's tennis team returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 19 when it hosts in-state foe No. 20 Florida State for the Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. Match time is slated for 5 p.m. ET as the Gators and Seminoles square off for the 60th time.
Admission to all regular-season home matches is free and parking restrictions will be lifted for the law school parking lot at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The first 100 students in attendance will receive a free Gators tennis t-shirt and there will be new grilled items available for purchase all season long.

Florida earned a 4-1 victory at North Florida in its most recent competition on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Gators, playing for the first time since Jan. 28, dropped the doubles point but fought back to nab their first victory away from Gainesville in the dual match season. UF featured two new doubles pairings and Marlee Zein, Tsveta Dimitrova, Katie Kubicz and Kharitonova all earned singles victories. Kharitonova's victory proved to be the clincher as she secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory from the No. 5 position.
Kharitonova has recorded a team-best three wins on the singles circuit.
No. 20 FSU enters the matchup sporting an 8-1 overall record and it is riding a five-match winning streak. The Seminoles, who have played all nine contests at home, dropped their lone match to SEC foe Tennessee, 4-3 on Jan. 25.
In a series that dates back to 1973, Florida holds the 56-3 edge including a 34-1 mark in matches played in Gainesville. The Gators saw their seven-match win streak snapped last season as they fell short in a pair of tilts with FSU. The teams met once in early February as part of the College Match Day festivities in Orlando, as Florida fell 4-1 in the neutral site matchup, and once again in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Florida led 3-2, but dropped a 4-2 decision to the visiting Seminoles who registered their first win over the Gators in postseason play.
Prior to last season, the Gators' lone blemish in the series was a 5-2 decision on Feb. 28, 2009, when then-No. 13-ranked Florida was tripped up by No. 24-ranked FSU in Tallahassee.
Florida's Roland Thornqvist spent three years as the head coach at his alma mater North Carolina where FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde served as his assistant coach from 1998-99.
Tuesday marks the first of two home matchups this week for Florida as it will also host Oklahoma on Friday, Feb. 22.
