
Gators Host Illinois/Vanderbilt for Midweek Contests

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida will look to continue its hot streak as Illinois and Vanderbilt come to town for midweek matches.
The No. 8 Gators will face yet another pair of top-30 opponents as they welcome the No. 13 Fighting Illini on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and then resume SEC play against No. 28 Vanderbilt on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Florida is coming off a set of conference wins over No. 26 Georgia and No. 22 Tennessee on the road and has now won six in a row and is a perfect 5-0 in the SEC. The Gators have dropped the doubles point in three of the last four matches, but earned five singles matches to take each match 5-2.
Illinois and Florida met in the ITA National Indoor Championships just over a month ago. The Gators defeated the Fighting Illini 4-1 in Chicago.
In the 2019 SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, Florida was selected to win the conference. Vanderbilt was chosen to finish eighth. Commodores head coach Ian Duvenhage was the head coach at Florida from 1989-2001 and went 221-126 his 13 seasons. He then became the personal coach for Florida's four-time All-American Jeff Morrison before becoming Vanderbilt's fourth head coach. Ryan Lipman, brother of former Gator Maxx Lipman, is Duvenhage's assistant coach.

Scouting the Fighting Illini
Illinois sits at No. 13 in the recent Oracle/ITA rankings. It has only played four matches since hosting the ITA National Indoor Championships. In those four matches, the Fighting Illini has dropped two matches to ranked BIG 12 teams in Baylor and TCU, but started 2-0 in B1G play with wins over Northwestern and Indiana. All five of Illinois' losses have come to top-15 teams. The Fighting Illini have two players ranked in the top-35 of the ITA Singles Poll with No. 14 Aleksandar Kovacevic and No. 31 Alex Brown. Brown and partner Caleb Chakravarthi make up Illinois' only ranked doubles team at No. 45.

Scouting the Commodores
Vanderbilt enters the match at No. 28 in the recent Oracle/ITA rankings. The Commodores have won three of their last five matches with losses to Alabama and Mississippi State. Vanderbilt has started SEC play 3-2 with wins over Arkansas, Auburn and Ole Miss. Against nationally ranked opponents, Vanderbilt is 1-2 this season and individually the Commodores are 1-5 against nationally ranked singles players. Cameron Klinger is Vanderbilt's sole ranked singles player at No. 89. The Commodores have the No. 71 and No. 80 ranked doubles tandems in Klinger with partners Maxwell Freeman and Billy Rowe.
