No. 4 Gators to Host NCAA Opening Rounds

Florida has made the NCAA Men's Championships for 29 consecutive years, dating back to 1991.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the fourth straight season, the Florida men's tennis squad (21-3) has been selected as a host for the 2019 NCAA Championship First and Second Rounds.
 
The regular-season SEC Champions – who earned the No. 3 national seed in this year's NCAA Championship - will host the event May 3-4, at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
 
Play will begin Friday, May 3, with the first match pitting second-seeded Florida State (18-10) against third-seeded UCF (15-10) at 12 p.m. ET. Following the match between the Seminoles and Knights, fourth-ranked Florida will face Florida Gulf Coast (14-8), scheduled to start no earlier than 3 p.m. ET. The winners of the Friday contests will then face each other in the second round matchup on Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. for the right to advance to the NCAA Round of 16.
 
The four-team field is full of sunshine as the Gators host three Florida-based teams.  Coming in as the three-seed, 29th-ranked UCF is making its fourth NCAA Championship appearance, after becoming a Division 1 program in 1984. The Knights earned the No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference tournament, but was fell to the USF Bulls in the championship match.  UCF will bring to one ranked singles player to Gainesville in Gabriel Decamps who checks in at No. 41.  Bogdan Pavel and Trey Hilderbrand team up on the doubles courts to form the 14th-ranked tandem in the nation.
 
The Knights will open tourney play against Florida State, which comes to Gainesville after earning an at-large bid after falling to Virginia in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.  The 27th-ranked Seminoles received the second seed and are making their 17th-consecutive NCAA appearance under head coach Dwayne Hultquist. The Seminoles are led by the pair of All-ACC singles players in No. 38 Lucas Poullain and unranked Alex Knaff.   
 
The final competitor at the Florida Regional is Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles clinched an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the 2019 ASUN Championship. The Green and Blue entered the postseason as the top seed after claiming their third regular season title.  FGCU will be making its third NCAA Tournament appearance in eight years of NCAA Division-I postseason eligibility. The Eagles are 0-2 all-time with appearances in 2015 and 2017.
 
Tickets for the NCAA event at Florida may be purchased in advance or on each day of the tournament. Parking will be available in the GREEN lot adjacent to the Tennis Stadium. Please note, parking will NOT be available in the ORANGE lot on Friday May 3rd.
 
This is 29th year in a row for Florida to make the NCAA Championship and the program has been selected to host the first and second round matches 15 of the last 19 years since the NCAA expanded the field to 64 teams in 1999.   The Gators enter with a 51-28 record in the tournament and have advanced to the NCAA semifinals twice (2005 and 2000).
