Gators Travel to OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational

The Florida men's golf team will face ten other ranked programs at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational beginning Friday.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida men's golf team is set to face a talented field this week at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational in Chicago, Ill. The event is hosted by University of Illinois and runs from Friday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 22.
UF will compete against 10 other ranked programs in the Windy City, including three top-five teams - No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Oklahoma State.
Format
The teams will complete 54 holes of stroke play over three days of competition. Play on Monday, Sept. 19 and Tuesday, Sept. 20 is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET, with the final round on Sunday Sept. 22 set to start at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Course Information
The tournament is being played at the Olympia Fields Country Club North Course in Chicago, Ill. As a par 70, 7,205 yard course, Olympia Fields has hosted multiple high-level tournaments, such as the U.S Amateur, three PGA Championships and five Western Opens.

Tournament History
Since 2009, this is the fifth time in program history that the Gators will participate in the Fighting Illini Invitational. UF's last appearance was in 2013, the season before JC Deacon was named Florida's head coach.
As a program, UF's highest finish at the event came in 2010 when it claimed the title.
Last Time Out
The Florida men's golf team opened fall season with a 10th place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
The course played tough as only the host, and eventual champion, Georgia Tech finished the tournament under par.
As a unit, the Gators carded 50 birdies, ranking second in the field, proving this young group will be dangerous moving forward.
Individually, junior John Axelsen got off to a good start, finishing tied for seventh after an even par performance. Freshman Ricky Castillo also had a good outing, shooting 5 over overall to finish tied for 21st.
