LUBBOCK, Texas – Florida women's tennis junior
McCartney Kessler won for the fifth time in the last five days as she moved forward to the main draw quarterfinals at the W15 Lubbock with a victory in straight sets Thursday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center on the campus of Texas Tech University.
Starting out in the event's qualifying round, Kessler had to win three matches just to earn a spot in the main draw and she is now one of just eight players remaining in what began as a pool of 80.
Thursday Kessler cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sofia Sewing, extending her scorching start to the fall season.
The nation's 23
rd-ranked singles player, Kessler, hasn't dropped a set since Monday.
Classmate
Victoria Emma was also active in the main draw entering the day, but an injury forced her to withdraw as St. John's Jessica Livianu won via walkover.
Main draw action continues on Friday as Kessler takes on the reigning Big South Player of the Year and 2019 Winthrop graduate, Lauren Proctor.
