Thursday, January 23, 2020 | Track and Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gators throwers will travel to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in this year's Hokie Invitational at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House Friday and Saturday.
Senior Amara Wiggan, who tied her second-best indoor career throw of 19.03 meters (62 feet, 5.25 inches) at Clemson's Orange and Purple Elite two weeks ago, will kick things off for the Gators Friday evening during the women's weight throw portion of the day.
The Gators will resume competition on Saturday when redshirt junior shot putter Connor Bandel steps into the ring. Bandel opened his season in Clemson, where he recorded a new indoor personal record of 19.29 meters (63 feet, 3.5 inches) that ranks fourth in UF's All-Time Indoor Top 10 list.
Newcomer and fellow shot putter Thea Jensen will follow Bandel to close out the weekend for Florida. Jensen made her collegiate debut during the Orange and Purple Elite, where she threw for 15.25 meters (50 feet 0.5 inches). Her mark ranks third nationally among freshmen.
