Gators Tally Two Ranked Wins on First Day of Regionals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Nate Bonetto and doubles pair Will Grant and Josh Goodger all collected ranked wins on the first day of the main draw at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament on Friday, October 22. The Gators also totaled eight wins on the day with four coming in both singles and doubles.

Andy Andrade and Mattias Siimar got the first win for Florida in doubles as the pair defeated Chase Ferguson and Bruno Oliveira of USF by a decisive score, 8-3. Grant and Goodger claimed the next victory for Florida after tallying their first ranked win as a duo this season as they defeated No. 22 Pedro Maciel and Randy Wilson of FGCU, 8-5.

In the second round of the doubles main draw, the Gators added two more wins. Andrade and Siimar took on UCF's Cooper White and Bryan Triana and won easily with a score of 8-1. Grant and Goodger overtook UNF's Patrick Kotan and Matthew Carroll, 8-5, to join the Andrade/Siimar duo in the quarterfinals.

The Gators picked up another four wins in singles, highlighted by Bonetto's first ranked win of the fall season. The Gator took on the No. 26 player in the country, Marcus McDaniel of Georgia Tech, and defeated the Yellow Jacket in a battle, 7-6 (5), 7-5.

Both Andrade and Grant claimed their third wins of the day as Andrade defeated UCF's Cooper White by two scores of 6-1, and Grant beat Kennesaw State's Raul Garcia, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Abedallah Shelbayh also collected a exciting win over FSU's Youcef Rihane, 6-2, 6-2. All four Gators advanced to the Round of 32.

UP NEXT:
Tomorrow's matches will begin with the second round of main draw singles matches at 8:30 a.m., followed by the first round of main draw consolation singles, and the Round of 16 for both main draw singles and main draw singles consolation. The day will conclude with doubles quarterfinal matches.
