
Summer Recap: Siimar Wins Doubles Title at Estonia Championship

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Mattias Siimar, a graduate transfer from Michigan, competed at the M15 Parnu tournament this summer where he made it to the doubles semifinals and singles finals.
With doubles partner Vladimir Ivanov, Siimar secured his first victory in round one after defeating Mark Lajal and Robin Erik Parts, 6-3, 6-3. The group also pulled out a competitive quarterfinal win over Charles Minc and Lorenzo Rottoli, 5-7, 7-5, 11-9, before a falling in a tough loss during the semifinals against Tadas Babelis and Ainius Sabaliauskas, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 9-11.
Siimar advanced to the singles finals at the tournament with a first-round win versus Vilius Gaubas, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, and a second-round victory over Benjamin Lock, 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Siimar won the first set, 6-3, and was up 1-0 in the second set before his opponent retired. During the semifinals, he competed against a familiar face in doubles partner Ivanov, where Siimar secured the win in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. In the finals, Siimar took Turkey's Ergi Kirkin to three sets, before dropping the match, 7-5, 3-6, 3-6.
Siimar also competed at the Estonian Men's Championships with Ivanov, where the duo claimed the doubles title. In the first round, they defeated Markus Kerner and Morten Ritslaid in a tough match, 7-6 (5), 7-5. During the quarterfinals, Siimar and Ivanov won against Denis Maijorov and Robert Raag, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
The pair punched their ticket to the finals after a semifinal victory over Alexander Georg Mandma and Karl Kiur Saar, 6-4, 7-5. Siimar and Ivanov competed against Alex-Andre Ojassalu and Indrek Finland in the final round of competition and took home the national doubles title with a 6-3, 6-1, victory.
In singles, Siimar made it all the way to the quarterfinals as an overall 3-seed, before dropping the hard-fought match to Siim Troost, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (5).
