
Shelbayh Tallies First Ranked Singles Win of the Fall

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Florida Gators men's tennis team started day one of the Crimson Chowderfest with seven wins on Friday, Sept. 24 at Harvard. Florida competed against players from both Cal-Berkeley and Michigan in the tournament.
The No. 57-ranked doubles pair of Abedallah Shelbayh and Mattias Siimar continued their undefeated fall streak as they dominated Cal's Yuta Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck, 6-2, for the Gators' first victory of the day.
Florida collected six wins in singles with all six Gators only needing two sets to overpower their opponents. No. 86 Ben Shelton was able to win his match against Cal's Overbeck, 6-4, 6-1, then No. 103 Siimar kept up his undefeated heroics for the season as he claimed a victory over Cal's Philip Hjorth, 6-2, 7-6 (7).
Shelbayh joined Siimar with two wins on the day while also collecting his first ranked singles win of the season after beating No. 114 Patrick Maloney of Michigan by scores of 6-2. Freshman Nate Bonetto tallied his third singles victory of the fall after defeating Nino Ehrenschneider of Michigan, 6-2, 6-4.
Will Grant remains undefeated in singles play so far as he pulled out a dominating win over Cal's Noah Gampel, 6-3, 6-1. No. 111 Lukas Greif took on Lucas Magnaudet of Cal and claimed the match by a score of 7-6, 6-2.
Florida will continue play in the Crimson Chowderfest tomorrow at 11 a.m.
