Florida Heads Back to Clemson for Bob Pollock Meet
Wednesday, January 26, 2022 | Track and Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - After taking last weekend off, the No. 5 Florida Women's Track and Field team and No. 19 Florida Men's Track and Field team will return to action at the Bob Pollock Meet on the campus of Clemson University. The Gators' first trip to Clemson this year (Clemson Invitational, Jan. 14-15) was filled with a number of PR's, event wins and even a new NCAA record.
Florida will travel 46 athletes this weekend to compete in 22 different events. In the first meet of the year, the Gators didn't run anyone in the 400m and only a handful in the 800m. This weekend will see most of the roster return to their main events.
The Gators have four 400m Indoor All-Americans from a season ago on this year's roster. On the women's side, Talitha Diggs and Taylor Manson make their season debuts in the events. In the first meet of the season, Diggs swept the 60m and 300m races while Manson was a part of the winning 4x400 team at the Clemson Invitational. Manson is a 12-time All-American while Diggs picked up two first-team Indoor All-American honors last season as a true freshman.
Manson, Diggs and Doneisha Anderson will all run the 200m and 400m races and are in the pool to be on the 4x400 relay team.
The addition of Jacory Patterson to this year's men's roster has been a welcomed boost to the Gators' sprint attack. At the Clemson Invitational, Patterson broke his own NCAA record in the 300m by clocking a time of 31.99. He became only the 7th person in World History to run a sub-32 second 300m. He returns to his normal 200m and 400m races this weekend. At Virginia Tech, Patterson was a six-time ACC Champion including four 400m titles (two Indoor, two Outdoor).
Ryan Willie is also slated to join Patterson in the 200m, 400m and 4x400 this weekend.
Grace Stark will run in the 60m this weekend after setting a school record in the 60m hurdles (7.86) to open the season. She remains the NCAA leader in that event heading into this weekend's competition.
Per usual, Florida has lots of talent in the sprint events. SEC co-leader Dedrick Vanover will run the 60m along with Tyler Davis, Cameron Mahorn and PJ Austin. On the women's side, Stark joins two-time 60m All-American Semira Killebrew, Alexis Brown and Tymiah Montgomery in the event.
Anna Hall, Sterling Lester, and Asia Smith will all make their season debuts in the pentathlon. Hall was the 2021 SEC Indoor Heptathlon Champion for Georgia last season while Lester placed third for the Gators. Smith won the 2020 Mountain West Indoor Heptathlon crown while competing for San Diego State.
Florida currently has nine individual athletes in the top-16 in the NCAA of their events while both 4x400 relay teams are also in the top-12.
Claire Bryant, Mahorn and Vanessa Watson will all make their season debuts this weekend.
This weekend will also feature a plethora of distance events and the season debuts for Emily Culley, Maria Fernandez, Jordan Shapiro, Dalton Brown, Nick Deal, Ethan Geiger, Reed Legg and Cavan Wilson.
The Gators will also take two DMR teams to Kentucky this weekend and a number of individual racers including Imogen Barrett, Caden Monk and Miles Green.
