CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – In a tough match during the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, the No. 2 Florida Gators (26-3) dropped a heartbreaker to No. 7 Virginia, 4-1, on Thursday night at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Virginia (26-5) snapped the Gators' 21-match doubles point streak as it claimed wins on courts one and two. Florida's duo of Nate Bonetto and Duarte Vale improved to 14-2 in dual matches this year with a decisive win over Gianni Ross and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg at court three, 6-1.
Virginia's No. 61 pair of Bar Botzer and Chris Rodesch claimed the match at court one over No. 5 Sam Riffice and Ben Shelton, 6-4. It all came down to court two, where No. 65 Andy Andrade and Mattias Siimar battled UVA's Ryan Goetz and Inaki Montes de la Torre. The Gators duo was down 2-4 before coming back to lead 5-4.
