THE SERIES
The Gators and Tigers meet for the 48th time on Sunday afternoon, with the all-time series sitting at 32-15 in favor of LSU. Last season, the squads split the series, with UF winning in Gainesville, 73-72, and LSU winning in Baton Rouge, 66-61.
A LOOK BACK
Sunday will mark the first meeting between the Gators and Tigers after splitting the season series in the 2021-22 campaign. In Gainesville, Florida won a 73-72 thriller over #11/10 LSU, led by Kiara Smith with an impressive 23-point, eight-assist, three-rebound and three-steal performance. Jordyn Merritt contributed 16 points, in addition to seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks. LSU returned the favor in Baton Rouge, however, holding on for a 66-61 victory.
BEST OF THE BEST
Florida will meet back-to-back top-five teams this week when they travel to No. 1 South Carolina on Thursday before hosting No. 5 LSU on Sunday, Feb. 19. This marks the first time in school history that the Gators have had to face-off with two top-five opponents in consecutive games during the regular season, and is just the second time it has ever happened. Florida met No. 5 Louisiana Tech and No. 2 Old Dominion in back-to-back games of the 1997 NCAA Tournament.
STILL SEARCHING
Florida is no stranger to top-level competition, having met a top-five opponent 73 times in school history. Against top-five opponents, the Gators hold a 7-66 mark, with their last victory coming on Feb. 26, 2006 at No. 5 Tennessee in overtime, 95-93.
FRESHMAN ON THE RISE
Freshman Myka Perry put on a strong performance against the No. 1 team, South Carolina, on Feb. 16, scoring 10 points to go along with a career-best two triples. Perry became the first freshman to score 10 or more points against a No. 1 team at Florida since Lavender Briggs scored 15 points against South Carolina on Feb. 27, 2020.
PLAYING WITH PACE
Florida likes to get up and down the court on offense, currently holding the 38th-fastest pace in the NCAA with an average of 74.7 possessions per 40 minutes. That pace puts them at third-fastest in the SEC behind Arkansas (75.2) and Kentucky (75.1).
TO THE LINE
Florida women's basketball is elite when it comes to getting to the free throw line, knocking down 14.69 per game which is fourth in the SEC and 33rd in the nation. They average 20.81 attempts per game, sitting at fourth in the conference and 32nd nationally.
NET UPDATE
After falling to No. 1 South Carolina on Feb. 16, Florida moved to 91st in the NET rankings. All 14 SEC schools sit within the top 118, while South Carolina and LSU sit at first and third, respectively.
RAINING THREES
KK Deans broke into the top-15 for triples made in a single season at UF, as she currently has made 55 to break into the record book. Alberte Rimdal is also looking at one of the best seasons for a sophomore, needing 49 total threes to mark the fifth-best output by a sophomore and she has currently knocked-down 37.
