The Gators earned their first 7-0 sweep of the season against the Ospreys.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Facing their fourth in-state foe of the season, the No. 21 Florida men's tennis team stayed flawless in Florida and swept the North Florida Ospreys, 7-0, on Tuesday night at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
Florida (13-10, 5-5 SEC) continued their string of dominance in doubles play against North Florida (14-6, 7-1 ASUN) to kickoff Tuesday's match. On court two, Nate Bonetto/Tanapatt Nirundorn were the first pair to earn a win, failing to drop a game against PJ Kotan/Bruno Vietri, 6-0.
Playing clincher in the doubles for the eighth time this season and in back-to-back matches was Jonah Braswell/Lukas Greif on court three. Up against Breno Marques/Andreas Scott, the Gators tandem converted two break points for a 4-0 lead and went on to secure the victory, 6-3. This marks the eighth-straight match Florida has won the doubles point to begin a match.
First Gator off the court in singles was Nirundorn on court six after extending his winning streak to five matches. The freshman raced out to a bagel in the first frame and won the following set 6-2 over Scott, extending the lead to 2-0. Also collecting a first set bagel was Bonetto on court five and the sophomore completed the straight set victory with a 6-3 second against Marques.
Clinching the match win for the Gators for a team-high fifth time was Greif on court four. The senior dropped just one game in both sets against Vietri and breezed by for the 6-1, 6-1 win. Next up for Florida was No. 83 Will Grant from court two after dispatching Rodrigo Crespo in straights, 6-4, 6-4. In both sets, Grant was leveled at 4-4 with Crespo, but won the next two games surging to victory.
Like the prior four singles matches, the final two were completed in straight sets. On court three, No. 106 Braswell opened at 1-1 against Kotan, but took charge and won the final five games in the first frame. Down 2-1 in the second set, the freshman reclaimed control of the match and once again snatched up the final five games for the 6-1, 6-2 win. Completing the sweep was No. 41 Axel Nefve from the top singles position over Jonas Hartenstein. Despite a back-and-forth first set, Nefve forced a tiebreak and came out on top 7-4 in the breaker. From there, the graduate student had complete control of the match and earned the bagel, 6-0.
Florida's focus now returns to Southeastern Conference play, as the Gators host No. 5 Kentucky on Senior Night, Friday for a 5 p.m. ET and finish the regular season on the road at No. 9 South Carolina, Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Columbia, S.C.
QUOTES FROM THE COURT

On the win over North Florida...
"I think the guys really came out prepared and hungry to get after those guys. They really played well from the beginning, immediately when we stepped on the court in warmups and carried it throughout the whole match. The team played a complete match, so really well done by the guys today."
On what stood out from the team's play…
"I think Tanapatt is playing really good tennis and he's doing a great job in doubles. He's the first one off in singles today. Lukas rebounded really well. But, really, I think everyone played well today. They improved in areas and we just have to keep getting better over the next few days. Looking forward to the opportunity to play Kentucky on Friday night."
On the thought process going into two matches against top-10 teams this weekend…
"We have to keep believing in each other. Keep believing in ourselves in those big moments. We have the players and the talent to get it done. I hope we've learned from our past situations that we are good enough to finish those matches. Hopefully, we have the opportunities to execute this weekend."
