
Subset of Gators Travel to California for Bryan Clay Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A group of six Gator Track & Field distance runners are set to travel to California to participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, on Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13.
The six athletes entered in this weekend's competition include Flomena Asekol, Parvej Khan, Amelia Mazza-Downie, Elise Thorner, Parker Valby and Allison Wilson.
LAST TIME OUT
Asekol, Khan and Wilson all made their 2024 outdoor debut at the Pepsi Florida Relays two weeks ago all setting personal records in their respective events. Asekol recorded the sixth best 800m time in school history as she crossed the finish line in 2:02.83. Khan also added his name to the UF All-Time Top 10 list in the 800m as he now ranks at No. 4 in the event with a time of 1:46.12. Wilson, after not competing in the 1500m since 2021, set a personal record, fishing the race in 4:27.84 which was 14 second faster than her previous best time.
Mazza-Downie, Thorner and Valby last competed during the indoor season. Mazza-Downie's last appearance came in the SEC Indoor Championship where she earned a bronze medal in the 5000m. Thorner was part of the Florida Gators Women's DMR team that took home first place in the SEC and third place in the NCAA. In Valby's most recent competition she was crowned the NCAA Champion in both the 3000m and 5000m and was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women's Athlete of the Year for the 2024 indoor season.

With three outdoor meets in the books, the Gators hold the No. 2 (Men) and No. 12 (Women) rankings in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Coaches' Poll.
