
Gators Men’s Tennis Takes on Bedford Cup

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Two Florida Gators are playing in the Bedford Cup taking place over the weekend. Francesco Cordova and Kevin Edengren make the trip to the Florida State Seminoles' Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center with matches beginning play on Friday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. EST and ending on Sunday, Sept. 28.
The Gators are one of six schools in Florida to attend the tournament, including Miami, Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, University of Central Florida and Florida State as the hosts. The first day of the tournament will take place in the indoor facility due to weather conditions in Tallahassee, Fla.
Edengren and Cordova enter the tournament in both the singles portion of competition and together as doubles partners. This will be both players second year representing the Orange and Blue in the tournament, with is also being Cordova's first tournament of the season and Kevin's second tournament.
The doubles portion of the tournament will kick off the following the first set of doubles teams playing at 9 a.m. EST on the indoor courts. The Florida duo will face off against the pairing of Stefan Correa and CJ Smith of FGCU.
Cordova's first singles match of the season is set to take place following the conclusion of the second round of matches, a tentative start time of 11:30 a.m. EST, against Jules Garot (Miami).
Edengren returns for his second tournament of the season after competing in the singles' pre-qualifiers of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. In that competition, Edengren fought for a 2-1 record, going all the way to the pre-qualifiers Round of 40 before falling to William Manning of NC State. Edengren earned a first round bye and will compete in the Round of 16 against the winner from the Kai-Luca Ampaw (UCF) and Pablo Paternostro (FGCU) following the conclusion of the third round of matches, and a tentative start time of 12:30 or 1 p.m. EST.
