Hidalgo and Watson Continue Doubles Run at Napa Valley Tennis Classic

ST. HELENA, Calif. - The University of Florida men's tennis squad continued play on Saturday afternoon at the Porsche Napa Valley Tennis Classic. Seniors Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson led the way for the Gators on the doubles courts.
Watson and Hidalgo were victorious in their second straight day of doubles action. The senior duo defeated Lakat and Wikberg of the California Bears, 6-3. The No. 23-ranked pairing look to go a perfect 3-0 on the weekend when they take the court again on Sunday. No. 12-ranked Elliott Orkin and Maxx Lipman again faced some stiff competition in the form of USTA juniors Crawford and Holt. The USTA pairing was able to take the match, 6-4.
The day was a tough one for the Gators in singles action. Billy Griffith of Cal defeated Watson, 6-3, 6-2. Hidalgo fell to No. 36 Florian Lakat of Cal, 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-2. Orkin lost in three sets to another Cal opponent in Oskar Wikberg, 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-0. Fellow-junior Maxx Lipman lost to No. 96-ranked David Hsu of Stanford, 6-2, 7-6(5).
The Gators will conclude their Napa Valley trip tomorrow and then head back to the sunshine state to prepare for the ITA All-American tournament.

“The boys had a tough day. I believe they will finish this event off well tomorrow. We have to continue to find answers when we aren't playing our best. This group is resilient and we will step up to the challenge.”
