GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 23 University of Florida men's tennis team is on the road this weekend in Columbus, Ohio to take on the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes. The match will take place on Sunday, February 21, at 12 p.m.
A week removed from their last match, the Gators used a week of practice to prepare for the highly-ranked Buckeyes. The Orange and Blue defeated the Furman Paladins last Saturday, 7-0 at the Ring Tennis Complex. The newly-ranked No. 1 doubles pairing in the nation, Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson, were able to get their first match win with the distinction. UF clinched the doubles point for the fifth time this season.
On the singles courts, the Gators looked sharp in their respective matches. Sophomore Chase Perez-Blanco would clinch the match for the Orange and Blue, with junior Elliott Orkin getting his fifth singles match win in six chances this season.
UF will return to Gainesville next weekend for a match against in-state rival, Florida State. The match will take place at the Ring Tennis Complex on Saturday, February 27 at 1 p.m.

Florida fell to Ohio State on March 10, 2015 at the Ring Tennis Complex, 4-1. Current Gator sophomore Chase Perez-Blanco was the only Florida player to put up a point for the home team.

Senior tandem Hidalgo and Watson are the new No. 1 doubles team in the latest Oracle ITA Rankings. The doubles pairing has defeated some highly-ranked opponents during their run, including the No. 2-ranked Texas Tech duo of Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas.
Making Moves
Junior Elliott Orkin has been making moves in the latest singles rankings. The Gator is now No. 21 in the country after beginning the 2016 dual match season at No. 49. Orkin is 4-1 and has competed at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.
Speaking of Rankings
The match on Sunday will feature eight ranked singles players and four ranked doubles pairs. The Buckeyes come in with three singles players in the Top-20 by the likes of Mikael Torpegaard (5), Huge di Feo (16) and Herkko Pollanen (18). Chris Diaz sits at No. 42 to round out Ohio State's four ranked singles players. The Gators boast four of their own ranked singles players, including Elliott Orkin (21), Diego Hidalgo (48), Alfredo Perez (54) and Chase Perez-Blanco (88).
In doubles, the Gators have the highest ranked pairing with Hidalgo and Watson the current No. 1 doubles team in the nation. Lipman and Orkin sit at No. 54. The red and black have two pairings in the Top-20 with Steinbach and Joyce at No. 14 and Pollanen and Torpegaard at No. 19.
