Gators Split Games in Fall Exhibition

Florida played its first fall exhibition today in a pair of six-inning games against USF at Joker Marchant Field in Lakeland.
The Gators took the first game 5-3 and the Bulls won the second 4-1. It proved to be a good day for many players to get some game action as 17 different players saw at bats.
A total of 11 Florida pitchers took the mound with solid success, allowing seven runs in 12 innings with 15 strikeouts and just two walks.
Florida will play another exhibition on Sunday, Nov. 4, against Jacksonville at McKethan Stadium. The teams will play a pair of seven-inning games beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
Below are some individual highlights from the day:

- Junior Austin Langworthy provided a big blast in the first game with a grand slam in the fourth inning that provided the winning runs.
- Seniors Nelson Maldonado and Blake Reese each went 2-for-3 with a single and double.
- Freshman Roberto Pena went 3-for-3 as the third baseman in game two.
- Fellow freshman Cory Acton played third base and shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
- Sophomore Brady Smith, freshman Kris Armstrong and freshman Kendrick Calilao each had a pair of hits on the day.
- Junior Tyler Dyson -- the only pitcher to go multiple innings -- allowed one run on two hits. He had two strikeouts with no walks.
- Sophomore Tommy Mace struck out the side in a perfect inning. Classmates Jordan Butler, Jack Leftwich and Hunter McMullen also looked sharp with scoreless innings.
- Five freshman pitchers saw action, tossing an inning apiece: David Luethje (2 H, 1 R, 2 K), Christian Scott (0 H, 0 R, 2 K), Nick Pogue (2 H, 1 R, K), Ben Specht (2 H, 0 R, K) and Hunter Ruth (0 H, 0 R)
