David Ties NCAA Lead, Gators Add Five NCAA Top 10s

CLEMSON, S.C. – Florida concluded its season-opening weekend with five more national top 10 times (to go with seven from Friday), with the day's top performance coming from senior Yanis David, who tied the NCAA long jump lead at Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational.
David strung together a consistent series of jumps and popped off a 6.45-meter jump on her fifth attempt. The mark was just four centimeters off her indoor personal record.
Also in the long jump, junior college transfer Kala Penn tied ninth-ranked mark in the nation and tied the No. 10-ranked mark on Florida's All-Time Indoor Top 10. Penn, a junior who hails from the British Virgin Islands, recorded a top mark of 6.22 meters.
Redshirt sophomore Connor Bandel logged a solid shot put opener at the Hokie Inivtational as well, posting the No. 10-ranked mark on the school's All-Time Indoor Top 10 (18.30 meters / 60 feet, 0.5 inches)
At the Clemson Invitational, junior Grant Holloway dazzled in the 200 meters, clocking the No. 2-ranked time in the country (20.69 seconds). Holloway, the 60-meter hurdles collegiate record holder, typically saves his sprinting for Florida's relays, making this a rare but impressive outing nevertheless. Holloway's time ranks ninth on the program's All-Time Indoor Top 10.
Holloway came back later in the afternoon and had Florida's top relay split (45.62), as the Gators' quartet of sophomore Benjamin Lobo Vedel, Holloway, senior Ryan Clark, and sophomore Chantz Sawyers posted the nation's second-fastest 4x400 relay time (3:04.74).
Florida's women logged the nation's No. 6-ranked 4x400 relay time (3:35.57), courtesy of senior Sharrika Barnett, and sophomores Nikki Stephens, Lauryn Ghee and Taylor Manson. Barnett had the group's top split (52.98 seconds) from the leadoff leg.
Junior Clayton Brown opened his season in the high jump, finishing with a top clearance of 2.18 meters (7 feet, 1.75 inches) and tying the No. 11-ranked mark in the nation.
Florida continues its season next Friday and Saturday at the Razorback Invitational. For a comprehensive, discipline-by-discipline season preview of the Gators' program, follow this link.
