Gators Close Out December with Five Straight Home Games Beginning with Sunday Tilt vs. South Alabama
Friday, December 5, 2025 | Women's Basketball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Women's Basketball Team (8-2) returns home for the final five games of the non-conference portion of its schedule beginning with a Sunday, Dec. 7 meeting with South Alabama. Tip against the Jaguars at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center is slated for 2 p.m. EST.
The Gators are coming off a tough, 68-64 road loss at Virginia Tech which dropped their overall record to 8-2 on the season. Liv McGill, whose 26.8 points per game rank third in the nation as of Dec. 4, scored a game-high 30 points, and Laila Reynolds added 10, but it wasn't enough for Florida to overcome its 22 turnovers.
Reynolds (13.8 ppg) and Me'Arah O'Neal (14.7) give the Gators a trio of double-digit scorers, as Florida outscores its opponents by an average of 20.2 points per game. O'Neal paces the team in rebounding (8.3 rpg) and blocked shots (1.50 bpg), while McGill leads the Gators in assists (5.6) and steals (3.88 spg).
South Alabama (6-2) has already won as many games this season as they did in the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign (6-24). The Jaguars and Gators have played three common opponents so far this year—Memphis, North Florida and Florida Atlantic.
South Alabama uses a balanced scoring attack led by junior guard Amyah Sutton's 13.6 points per game. Cordasia Harris (12.5 ppg) and Daniela Gonzalez (10.6) also average double figures in scoring this year for the Jaguars, and four other members of the squad average between six and 10 points. Harris is the team's leading rebounder on the year (8.3 rpg), and she makes a team-high 54.4 percent of her field goal attempts.
One of the Jaguars key Achilles' heels is turnovers where they average 19.3 per game. They also make just 64.2 percent of their free throw attempts as a team.
The Gators are 6-3 all-time against South Alabama, but the teams haven't faced off against one another since Nov. 11, 2016. Ronni Williams, Eleanna Christinaki and Haley Lorenzen each scored 16 points apiece for the Gators in that 85-33 victory, as Florida's defense held the Jaguars to fewer than 10 points in the first, third and fourth quarters, and just 19.6 percent shooting from the field overall. Florida has won six straight in the series, including the last two at home.
