AS A FRESHMAN (2008): Named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll…Made four appearances out of the bullpen and was 0-0 with a 3.86 earned run average…Worked a total of 4.2 innings and allowed six hits and six runs (two earned)…Issued five walks and registered three strikeouts…Surrendered three hits and a pair of runs in an inning of work against Brown on March 8…Notched a career-high two strikeouts during one frame in a 15-0 shutout of Campbell on March 5…Threw two scoreless and hitless innings in a 15-2 shellacking of Eastern Michigan…Uncorked four wild pitches and permitted three walks in two-thirds of an inning in his collegiate debut versus Siena on Feb. 24.
HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year letterwinner at Palatka High School for head coach Matt McCool…The Panthers were two-time District 5-4A champions in 2006 and 2007…Collected team and county Most Valuable Player honors on his way to all-state recognition…Named first-team All-First Coast as a utility player in his final prep season after striking out 98 batters in 52 innings while registering a .340 batting average…Participated in the Florida Athletic Coaches' Association All-Star Game in Sebring, Fla., in May of 2007, becoming the first player from Palatka chosen to play in the annual event in 10 years…Third-team all-state selection in Class 4A as a junior, when he was 8-2 with a 0.90 earned run average on the mound…Posted a .345 average with 27 runs batted in as the Panthers finished 19-9.
